We want your OPINIONS:
Since 1947, WGNS has been a mirror of the thoughts, actions
and events of our community. Your GOOD
NEIGHBOR STATION
continues to need your input for us to be able to be aware of the pulse
of everyone who makes-up the Heart of Tennessee. If there is an
issue that concerns you, please

Tell us about your COMMUNITY EVENTS:
WGNS would like to tell other neighbors about activities at your church.
Your GOOD NEIGHBOR
STATION also wants to publicize
events sponsored by your schools, civic clubs and social groups.
WGNS will broadcast this information on the radio as well as print it on
this website under GOOD NEIGHBOR EVENTS. We have a full-year of
events already on this website, so it's OK to get the news to us as much
as a year in advance. But please, always get it to WGNS at least
2-weeks prior to the event.

WGNS works to fairly present all sides of local
issues: WGNS feels that a friendly exchange of ideas is
a healthy way to build understanding with our neighbors who may not
believe the way we do. Your GOOD
NEIGHBOR STATION
works at being an impartial voice to open dialogue between all persons
in the Heart of Tennessee. Anytime you feel that WGNS does not
present all sides of local issues, please let us know.

Did you realize that WGNS came on the air at 10:00 o'clock on the
evening of December 31, 1946. Murfreesboro's first radio station
helped our community ring-in the New Year of 1947. Since the first
minute on the air, WGNS has dedicated itself to giving in-depth news
coverage of City Council and County Commission meetings. We also
know that the young people in the Heart of Tennessee are our future.
That is why you hear so much news about the Murfreesboro City School and
the Rutherford County School systems. In addition, what would this
community be without Middle Tennessee State University? That's why
there is in-depth coverage of sports, news events and broadcasts dealing
with the Blue Raiders. Over the years as technology improves, WGNS
has been on the cutting-edge to make improvements that allow us to
better serve our community. WGNS was not only Rutherford County's
first radio station, it was also this areas first AM station to offer
stereo, the recipient of Tennessee Emergency Management Agency's STATION
OF THE YEAR AWARD for 2 consecutive years, Tennessee Education
Association's SCHOOL BELL AWARD, and the first AM station in the United
States to go on the air with specially licensed FM channels (100.5 MHz.
and 101.9 MHz.). In addition to getting your Good Neighbor
Station on those 2 FM channels and AM 1450, you can also hear and see
your local programs and guests on over-the-air TV channel 11.
The Good Neighbor Network is 100% locally owned and 100% locally
operated. WGNS' staff lives here, our children are schooled here,
we are involved in local churches and civic groups, and like you we love
our the Heart of Tennessee. Total local involvement and commitment
help WGNS to be a better mirror of our community. But none of this
would be possible without YOU. WGNS is YOUR radio
station. Always, tell us what you want on your
station. And when we fall short, PLEASE let us know. And
since we are your neighbor, WGNS reports news, shares community events
and presents opinions in a way that is not meant to hurt other
neighbors, but instead to bring the strengths of our diverse community
together and create paths of understanding. As always, WGNS
pledges to go beyond the extra mile and be your
GOOD NEIGHBOR
STATION.
